The mission of the Institute was two fold.
First, coordination of scientific research into Reiki.
Second, public education and awareness of the techniques. To this end, workshops and lectures were organized
worldwide for educational outreach.
Knowledge of the techniques had previously been kept by a handful
of people in the United States
and Japan. A key mission of the Institute was to raise
public awareness of Reiki and disseminate the techniques more widely. As a result of the efforts of the Institute
and a similar research and training center, Reiki is now widely studied
and used.
